Job Description:

Position Description:

Under the supervision and direction of the Food Commodities Division Manager, the Food Commodities Assistant will be assisting with the importing and exporting of a variety of food commodities that include fresh and frozen products, such as fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy, as well as dry cargo (i.e., whey powders, supplements) to Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe and South America. Logistic movements will be arranged by air carriers, ocean carriers, and trucking companies.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Data Entry - accurate inputting of air and ocean export data
  • Working with US regulatory agencies such as the FDA, USDA, and AFHIS
  • Communicating with overseas customers and other Nissin branches (Japan, Europe, Asia)
  • Assist with sales and attracting new customers
  • Handle export and import logistics. Process proper paperwork, i.e., bills of lading, commercial invoicing, packing lists, and other government documentation.
  • Provide rate quotations
  • Re-pack products according to TSA approved regulations using shrink wrapping and other packing methodologies for packing fresh commodities.
  • Go into the field to inspect quality of the product.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum high school graduate. 2-year college education preferred, but not necessary
  • Entry-level, 0-2 years experience; industry experience desirable
  • Bilingual required. Additional language skills in Spanish, Chinese, and Korean a plus
  • Computer literate. Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Oracle Air/Ocean import export software desirable, and willing to learn Nissin's proprietary software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Willingness to learn new things
  • Work well as part of a team and individually
  • Possess excellent customer service skills

Additional requirements:

  • Must be able to work overtime, including at times late night shifts, 1-2 month off-site assignments, and weekends
  • Must be able to travel, including extended 1-2 month trips (seasonal projects)
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License and insurance
  • Position may require driving substantial distances between customers and job sites
  • Must pass extensive background check
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
